NASHVILLE, Tenn — Navy veteran assumes chief medical officer role at Little Clinic

cropped-retail-medicine-journal-logo31.jpg NASHVILLE, Ten. — The Little Clinic has appointed Dr. Marc Watkins as vice president and corporate medical director, effective April 6, 2015. He will report directly to Dr. Kenneth Patric, chief medical officer.

Prior to joining The Little Clinic, Dr. Watkins spent six years with Concentra Health Services in various physician leadership roles and most recently was national medical director- clinical account management, providing strategic, operational and clinical program development to major employers across the country.

Dr. Watkins received his BA in philosophy and pre-medical studies in 1991 from Holy Cross in Massachusetts, and his MD in 2002 and his MPH in 2009 from Meharry Medical College in Tennessee. His residency training was in general surgery at the National Capital Consortium, U.S. Navy – Bethesda, and in occupational & environmental medicine at Meharry Medical College where he served as chief resident from 2008-2009. He is board certified in occupational & environmental medicine and earned distinction as a Fellow of the American College of occupational & environmental medicine.

little clinciDr. Watkins served eight years in the U.S. Navy serving exclusively with the U.S. Marines. He was twice awarded the Navy Commendation Medal (2) in direct support of combat operations while assigned in Iraq. He was honorably discharged in 2010 as a lieutenant commander.

Dr. Watkins is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and American College of Physician Executives. He considers his core competency to be designing and implementing quality medical programs that focus on improving clinical outcomes while at the same time reducing cost through a multidisciplinary team.

Watkins is married to his medical school sweetheart, Deann, and lives in Brentwood, Tenn. He enjoys golf and travel.
